In 2018 I moved up to Portland to go back to school in an MSME program. At the time I had worked to build a small cabinet-making and carpentry business. I knew I wanted to take my tools with me but wasn't sure how to transport them and store them securily. I came across some Ron Paulk videos on YouTube and was really inspired.  A finish carpenter, Ron had created multiple iterations of mobile workstations in trailers and box vans. I knew I had found my solution and set out to find a trailer.

Ron Paulk also sells plans for his collapsable work table that doubles as a tablesaw outfeed. This was a big item and wanted to be able to fit it into the trailer easily. The table top is made of two 2' x 8' sections. I made one extra section to rest on cleats when the rear doors of the trailers are open. All of these table units slide in from the rear of the trailer and store under a set of drawers.

After painting the trailer interior white and running romex I was ready to start putting some cabinets together. I had a pretty good idea what would go where, and I knew I wanted it to be a walkthrough design.

I laid out potential tools and cabinets with blue tape. As far as large tools go I was able to fit my tablesaw, chop saw, bandsaw, compressor, shop-vac and pressure washer into designated areas. The decision to bring and install the bandsaw was questionable. In the 4 years since starting this project I've only used it a handful of times.

This piece was one of my favorites. No drawer slides, each side has dados in the 3/4" plywood at regular intervals. Because the drawers are proportional in height they can be rearranged in any configuration. (1.5" , 3", 4.5")

These drawers house all my nicknacks, blades, wrenches, bits, drywall tools, pneumatic tools, and everything else that will fit.

More pictures coming soon!

There have been a lot of additions to this trailer since I last took pictures.  I'll show you how I plumbed the hole trailer into my compressor, set up a vacuum system, and how I'm storing all my clamps. The trailer is a behemoth, and exceeds the weight limit of the trailer by ~#1000. Soon I'd like to upgrade and get a slightly larger trailer.
